MARTHA STEWART LIVING OMNIMEDIA TO HEADLINE FIFTH-ANNUAL “GEORGETOWN JINGLE”

Design Team from the Media and Merchandising Legend to Donate Creative Talents to Holiday Event Benefiting Georgetown University Hospital’s Pediatric Oncology Programs

WASHINGTON, DC (AUGUST 24, 2010) – A design team from Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, Inc., (MSLO) will participate in the fifth-annual Georgetown Jingle event at Four Seasons Hotel Washington, DC, on Sunday, December 12, 2010. Hosted each year by Four Seasons Hotel, JDS Designs, and The Washington Design Center, the Georgetown Jingle benefits The Georgetown Hospital Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center’s pediatric programs. The MSLO team will fashion a “Flights of Fancy” holiday tree, and the decorations will be available for purchase or bidding in the hotel’s lobby to support the charitable event.

Top interior designers from the Washington area, along with the MSLO team, will festoon Four Seasons Hotel with a total of 10 holiday-themed trees and vignettes. MSLO’s majestic “Flights of Fancy” tree will take center stage. A themed tree also will be on display in The Washington Design Center and in Banana Republic’s Georgetown location.

The MSLO team originally created its elegant “Flights of Fancy” avian themed tree in 2009 as part of the “Magazine Holiday Design Showcase” during which various magazine editors were asked to decorate different rooms at Washington’s historic Blair House, the President’s guesthouse, for the holidays.  This year, MSLO’s “Flights of Fancy” tree is a 9-foot, lit, blue spruce adorned with flocks of glittered birds and nests inspired by stylized birds depicted in  the 18th-century, blue-green, Chinese wallpaper that hangs in the Lee Drawing Room of the Blair House.

The majority of the ornaments are from the
Martha Stewart Collection™ available at Macy’s. Additional birds and nests were created by MSLO’s crafters using glitter and other crafting products from the Martha Stewart Crafts™ line available at Michaels and other independent retailers. The 9-foot blue spruce tree itself was donated by Puleo International, Inc.
MSLO’s Georgetown Jingle team is led by Hannah Milman, SVP and Executive Editorial Director of Crafts/Holiday, and Anduin Havens, Art Director for the Emmy-Award winning “The Martha Stewart Show.”  The founding craft editor at Martha Stewart Living magazine, Milman continues to develop crafts projects for all divisions of MSLO. She also leads MSLO’s team of crafting experts in creating the Martha Stewart Crafts™ line. “I want to inspire people,” Milman says, “so they can create something personal.”

All of the Georgetown Jingle trees and vignettes at Four Seasons Hotel will be on display until December 1, 2010.  The Georgetown Jingle trees at Banana Republic Georgetown and The Washington Design Center will be on display in early November. With the exception of the Banana Republic tree, which will be raffled, all trees and vignettes will be available for purchase by members of the public for the stated “buy it now” price starting December 1, 2010. Georgetown Jingle attendees can bid on the remaining inspired holiday décor during a silent auction, which also will include getaway packages, spa treatments, sports tickets, children’s gifts, among other sought-after items. A Georgetown Jingle sponsored raffle will offer the chance to win fabulous prizes, including a 2011 Venza donated by DARCARS/Toyota. The event’s other features will include culinary samplings provided by top area restaurants, holiday music, live entertainment, and a CVS/pharmacy workshop where children decorate cookies, create festive cards, enjoy kid-friendly food and meet Santa.

Proceeds from the Georgetown Jingle benefit the Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant Program and the Childhood Cancer Survivorship Program at Georgetown University Hospital. The programs are directed by Dr. Aziza Shad, one of the region’s most respected oncologists. Over the past five years, the Georgetown Jingle has raised $1.3 million for these pediatric programs.

The Georgetown Jingle will be held at Four Seasons Hotel Washington, DC, on Sunday, December 12, from 5 to 8 pm. Tickets are $150 per person, $350 for families of four, $50 for kids 3-18, and free for children under 2. For more information about the event, visit www.georgetownjingle.com.
