Mohawk Group, IIDA, and Interior Design Announce Additional Re:work Workshops
Washington, D.C. on August 19.
If you're still looking to whip your resume writing, interview skills, and finances into shape, you're in luck as the Mohawk Group, the International Interior Design Association, andInterior Design have announced additional dates to their Re:work series of workshops.
The free day-long seminars, to help out-of-work architects and designers back on their feet, will now be making stops in Seattle on July 13, Portland on July 15, and Washington, D.C. on August 19. The additional dates were added after the first three events, in Atlanta, New York, and Los Angeles, were met with capacity registration.
The triumvirate is also working to develop a webinar series to help reach smaller markets across the country. "The response to Re:work has exceeded our expectations," says Mohawk Group president, Al Kabus. "We're pleased and humbled by our ability to offer needed resources and support through Re:work. It's a small gesture that seems to be going a long way in helping people get back on their feet."

11 a.m. Jim Caughmann, “The History of Luxury” CEU presentation sponsored by Baker Knapp & Tubbs (1hr) Design House Conference Room – Concourse-Level Objects of luxury have historically existed in every culture; however, the conscious marketing of luxury products to an affluent and aspirational clientele developed in the late 17th century in France. The range of products and the techniques used to develop and market them were conceived by Louis XIV and his chief ministers both to enrich and to glorify France. This phenomenon of design, innovation and execution moved beyond the nobility to a broader clientele enriched by banking and trade. This growing segment was stimulated by a nascent fashion press and developed into a target market galvanized by emulation and aspiration, the same phenomena that drive our luxury market today. The modern idea of creating an experience, such a vital and necessary component in defining today’s luxury brands that are truly alluring and emotional, was developed during this period. This slide lecture will investigate the convergence of the many factors that have defined modern luxury and will trace the influence of these early efforts to many of today's venerable luxury brands.
