Edens & Avant's Mosaic Claims LEED Silver
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Edens & Avant has secured LEED Silver certification for its Mosaic project, a 31-acre mixed-use development designed to revitalize the Merrifield area of Fairfax County.
The U.S. Green Building Council's LEED nod was accorded through its Neighborhood Development Plan. The Mosaic is an infill property located near the intersection of Interstate 66 and The Beltway (I-495) in Washington, D.C. proper. Three years ago, the Mosaic was selected as one of 239 projects for the USGBC initiative.
The Mosaic's build-out calls for more than 400,000 square feet of retail, 1,000 residential units, 65,000 square feet of office, two parks, two boutique hotels and an eight-screen arthouse cinema. The first phase, now under construction, is scheduled to open in fall 2012.
Sustainable features include a 20,000-square-foot green roof and electric car charging stations and advanced storm water management systems. The transit-oriented development, within walking distance of the Metro, also will feature a shuttle service to public transportation. As a pilot project for LEED-ND, Mosaic's development team was selected for a focus group of 60 projects to help create the rating system.
