Last week I had the pleasure of attending a preview of the 2009 Christmas Tree's for the Georgetown Jingle at the Four Seasons in Georgetown. The Georgetown Jingle 2009 raises funds for the Pediatric Hematology, Oncology, Blood and Marrow Transplantation Program at Georgetown University Hospital. The program’s internationally recognized specialists are on the cutting edge of cancer research and treatment, and each staff member is dedicated to providing compassionate care in a setting that encourages young patients to act like kids-even while they're battling cancer. The tree's you see below will be auctioned off. The starting price is $3000. Take a look and see if any of them interest you :)
The actual Georgetown Jingle will take place this weekend Sunday, December 13, 4-8pm, Four Seasons Hotel Washington. You can find more information here:
On the Left: Wendy Danziger - Children’s Tea Party of Danziger Design On the Right: Marika Meyer - Nantucket Christmas of Marika Meyer Interiors. I spoke with Marika for a bit about her tree. It has small lightship basket ornaments that she picked up on a trip to Nantucket. The people on the island have been making these baskets forever. The tree also has cranberries which come from the bog's up there, hydrangea, a plant native to the island, large scallop shells, and smaller ones that are hand dipped in silver from a shop on the island. She wanted to capture the Nantucket spirit and I think she did just that.
On the Left: Lynni Megginson - Aspen Holiday of L&M Designs On the Right: Karen Luria - Holiday on Ice of Karen Luria Interior Identity, Inc. Karen has been very busy this season. In addition to her modern tree for the Jingle, she also did a more traditional tree for the Blair House. Karen's tree was made by Spectrum Limited in MD. She was inspired by her love for acrylic and she wanted to create something utilitarian that would make a statement. The tree can also serve as a light fixture, with a concealed channel for the cord, during the non-holiday season. The highest bidder of this piece will also receive a pair of Ridel skates signed by Scott Hamilton.
On the Left: Jerry Begley - A Nordic Christmas Dawson Begley Design On the Right: Paul Corrie - Tree of Hope of Paul Corrie Interiors, LLC
On the Left: Sarah Wessel - Secret Garden of Sarah Wessel Designs, Ltd. On the Right: Shazalynn Cavin-Winfrey - It’s a Jungle Out There of SCW Interiors. Shazalynn set up here tree as a vignette. It is based on a child's imagination. She wanted to show a different way of presenting a tree, and did this by placing it on a table. She made everything gender neutral so that it won't shy away bidders. And The small children's size chairs are a nice touch that any child would be excited to have!
On the Left: David Iatesta - Driftwood of Iatesta & Company, Inc. On the Right: Gloria De Lourdes Blalock - Let There Be Light of Blalock Interiors, LLC
Above: Camille Saum - L’abre de Noel of Camille Saum Interior Design. Camille really wanted to make a white tree that was covered in glitter, and that is just what she did. She took a tree to a painter and had them paint the whole thing white, must have been quite a task with all those little branches! She bought a bunch of silver and white ribbon from one of her favorite wholesalers, and made the star herself from an old pillow in her carriage house.
